Sioux Valley Energy Prepared For Potential Winter Storm

Ice on lines

A widespread winter storm may be brewing for our area this weekend. Forecasts indicate snow and possible rain with temperatures in the 20s, along with significant winds.

Our hope is that ice does not become a factor with this storm because ice + wind + power lines = likely power outages. As you can see in this graphic, ice can lead to heavy loading on the power system, potentially resulting in damage.

While we can’t predict Mother Nature, we can be prepared – which we are. Sioux Valley Energy will be monitoring the weather and system operation through its 24/7 Dispatch Center. We have personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies ready to respond if the need arises.

Keep safety in mind this weekend as this weather event approaches our area.

If you haven’t done so already, sign up for Sioux Valley Energy’s SmartHub online energy management tool, which allows you to easily report outages and receive messages from your Cooperative.
