Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming a hot item in the auto world, with many manufacturers offering at least one model. Improved versions are on the horizon and for good reason. EVs provide environmental advantages and tax credits, along with lower operating costs, often balancing out the initial investment. They require no oil changes, belts, air filters, spark plugs and many other parts that occasionally need replacement in a gasoline car. Charge up with clean, American made electricity.

  • EV Rate Options
    • Time of Use Rate (TOU)*: Take advantage of off-peak rates for EV charging and whole home usage
    • Sub-meter Rate: Sub-meter your Level 2 Charger to take advantage of off-peak evening charging as low as 5.44 cents per kWh.
  • EV Rebate Options - Click HERE to download the EV Charger Rebate form
    • Rebate for a level 2 charger: Up to $250 with the installation of a sub-meter or up to $500 with participation in the TOU rate.
    • Rebate for one year’s worth of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)-- Choose to have 100% of your energy come entirely from renewables for the first 12 months after the purchase of an electric vehicle
  • New Home Construction EV Ready Rebate
    • A rebate of $100 is available for a home that has been wired to be EV ready for a future level II charger. Home must be wired with a dedicated 240-volt 40 amp or larger breaker. Builder/electrician must submit affidavit verification form for rebate. Contact SVE for details and rebate form.
  • Commercial Public EV Charger Rebate
    • A rebate of $500 is available for the purchase/installation of a public EV charge Level II or greater. In addition, the business will receive a rebate for one year’s worth of Renewable Energy Credits to offset 100% of their energy usage with renewable energy. Contact SVE for a rebate form.

*The Time of Use Rate (TOU) was developed for members who are seeking opportunities to have a direct impact on their electric bill through their conservation efforts and daily usage habits. Contact the billing department to sign up for a three-month risk-free trial period to get acclimated to the new rate structure without the concern of paying a higher amount than the regular rate program. Use SmartHub to manage and review your usage.

  • 15.35 cents per kWh from 7-10 a.m. and 4-9 p.m.
  • 5.44 cents per kWh any other time of the day (compared to regular rate of 9.55 cents)
  • Members with electric heat will continue to receive the reduced heat rate
  • Former Alliant Energy customers have a different TOU available per PUC agreement

Sealing and insulating the envelope of your home is a cost-effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort. Sioux Valley Energy offers a weatherization rebate of 20% of the project costs up to a maximum of $1,000 towards weatherization improvements to an existing home.

To qualify for the rebate:

  • Improvements include adding insulation, air sealing measures, replacing windows that are single pane, double pane with metal frames or are non-functioning, and replacing non-insulated exterior doors.
  • *SVE must conduct an energy audit prior to the work being performed.
  • Replacement products must be Energy Star Certified in the Northern Climate Zone. Homes newly constructed within the last five years are not eligible.
  • Loans for weatherization improvement projects are also available upon credit approval. Loan funds can be issued up to $10,000, 5% interest rate and seven-year repayment plan.

*Energy Audits:

An energy audit is the great tool to help you determine the location of energy leaks in your home. A third-party certified audit is available for $100 plus tax.

  • The audit includes inspections of insulation, windows, doors and other areas that may require air sealing measures. The use of Infrared camera imaging and blower door testing is also included—those devices provide the most beneficial information during the months of November through March.
  • The member is required to be home during the inspection and is encouraged to walk around with the inspector to take note of areas that could benefit from weatherization improvements.
  • An energy audit report of the recommended weatherization and energy saving techniques will be sent to the member.
  • Only the recommended weatherization improvements approved by the third-party auditor are eligible for the weatherization rebate program.

Heating and cooling use the largest chunk of your home energy dollars. When you choose electric, you know it’s clean, reliable and safe, but it can also be very efficient. It’s tough to beat the efficiency of an electric heat pump that not only cools your home in the summer, but also heats it in the winter.

HEAT PUMP REBATES

  • $200 - air source heat pump with HSPF rating of 8.5 to 9.9 and $400 for HSPF rating of 10 and above with non-electric back-up heat
  • $600 - air source heat pump with HSPF rating of 8.5 to 9.9 and $800 for HSPF rating of 10 and above with all electric back-up heat
  • $800 – geothermal heat pump

ELECTRIC HEAT RATE: A sub-meter can be installed on electric heat equipment to receive a reduced rate for the billing cycles of October-April. The sub-meter is free for heat pumps two ton or larger and electric resistance heat over 5 kW, or a $200 installation fee is charged. Members who connect central air conditioners or heat pumps to load management qualify for a $6 credit per month for the billing cycles of May-September with a minimum total electric usage of 300 kWh. Keep your appliances on, your home warm, the game on TV, your sump pump running, and the lights shining during your next power interruption. Sioux Valley Energy is now offering services of installing interlock kits and Kohler standby generators to give you peace of mind for Mother Nature’s temperament.

  • Intertock Kit: One of the simplest and least expensive methods of readying your home for the connections of a portable generator is to install an interlock kit in the main electrical panel and a permanently installed generator inlet on the outside of your home. By feeding your entire electrical panel with the generator you will not have to run any extension cords from the generator throughout the house. Most interlock kits can be installed for less than $500.
  • Kohler Standby Generator: A permanently installed standby generator keeps your power on during an outage. It’s installed outside (like an AC unit) and comes on automatically—whether you are home or away—all within seconds of a power outage. There’s a higher investment to install a standby generator, but it takes all the work and worry out of dealing with a power interruption. The Kohler standby units come in a range of sizes from 8 KW to 20 KW. Loans are available up to $10,000, 5% interest with a 7-year term for the purchase and installation of standby generator equipment by the cooperative.

Contact Reggie Gassman, Manager of Customer Electrical Services, at 800-234-1960 for a quote and more information on generator options.

Portable Generator Safety

  • Operate the generator in a clean, dry, well ventilated area. Operate in an open area—never in an enclosed, confined structure such as a garage or basement. Breathing in the carbon monoxide exhaust fumes can cause serious injury or death and improper ventilation can lead to ignition of materials. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Don’t overload the generator—know the rated capacity. Don’t tamper with factory engine speed settings. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for safe operation.
  • Turn off all equipment powered by a generator before shutting it down. Never fuel a generator while it is operating.
  • If your home has not been wired by a licensed electrician to have an interlock kit, don’t try to connect a generator directly to your home’s electrical system. In these applications, use heavy-duty, outdoor-rated three-pronged grounded extension cords and plug appliances directly into generators. Contact SVE if you would like us to install an interlock kit.
