Sioux Falls Area Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive Set for September 29

The second annual Sioux Falls Area Ride and Drive and Electric Vehicle show will be held at the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls on Thursday, September 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Sioux Valley Energy, Southeastern Electric, East River Electric, Xcel Energy, and City of Sioux Falls.

Attendees will be able to test drive an electric vehicle and check out several EV makes and models at the event. Additionally, recreational vehicles like e-bikes and electric lawn equipment will also be on display. Food from local food trucks will be available for purchase.

Test drives will be available for the following EVs (Drivers must provide a valid driver’s license to test drive a vehicle):

  • Audi eTron (Graham Auto)
  • Audi Q4 (Graham Auto)
  • Ford Lightning (Sioux Falls Ford)
  • Ford Mustang Mach E (Sioux Falls Ford)
  • Nissan Leaf (Sioux Valley Energy)
  • Nissan Leaf (Southeastern Electric)
  • Volvo XC90 (Graham Auto)

Area EV owners are scheduled to have the following vehicles on display:

  • Chevy Bolt
  • Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
  • Ford Focus Hybrid, Lightning, and Mustang Mach E
  • Jeep Wrangler 4xE Plug in Hybrid
  • Kia Nero and Kia EV6
  • Porsche Taycan
  • Rivian R1T
  • Tesla Model 3, Model S Plaid, and Model Y
  • Toyota Rav 4 Plug In

In addition to those vehicles, the following electric technologies will be at the event:

  • LiveWire Electric Motorcycle Simulator from J&L Harley-Davidson
  • Electric Lawn Equipment from ACE Hardware and Interstate Sales
  • E-Bikes from Spoke-n-Sport
  • EV Charger Plan Booth from South Dakota Department of Transportation
  • Electric Golf Carts from NB Golf Car

Beneficial Electrification

Beneficial Electrification simply means Go Electric! It's the application of electricity to end uses that would otherwise use fossil fuels.

In January of 2022, Sioux Valley Energy reallocated existing personnel resources to develop a department that is dedicated to beneficial electrification to help members Go Electric!

Examples include electric vehicles, electric powered lawn tools, electric heat pumps and much more.

Distributed Generation

The Sioux Valley Energy Beneficial Electrification Department is available to help members who are interested in installing renewable energy systems on their homes such as solar.

For those interested in this option, please call Reggie at 800-234-1960 and apply for a Distributed Generation Interconnection.

Community Solar Project

Sioux Valley Energy is planning to build a community solar array that will be located at the Colman, SD service center. The array will have a total of 140 panels with a total capacity of 60 kW and a maximum output of 50 kW.

Members of SVE will be able to purchase the output of one or more panels in the form of $1,000 for a 20 year subscription where the output will be credited to their bill every month.

Electric Vehicles
